Three decades after its debut, this cozy Palm Beach enclave remains one of the most desired golf memberships in Florida or anywhere else
Since opening 30 years ago, The Loxahatchee Club—set on 340 acres in northern Palm Beach County—has been known as a golf-centric community. The Jack Nicklaus Signature course was Golf Digest’s “Best New Private Course” in 1985, and a coterie of serious players makes good use of the first-class teaching and practice facilities as well as a caddie program.
But as important as golf is, “It’s the membership that defines the club,” says General Manager Chip Misch. “We have an extraordinarily accomplished group of people who really enjoy their life, friends, and family.” And who are committed to keeping the club small and intimate. Most of the 315 members—39 of whom joined in the last year—live in some 300 custom-built homes inside the gates, where there’s also 70 acres of freshwater lakes and open green space, an activities center that’s so busy with fitness, spa, and wellness offerings that an expansion is in the works, and a clubhouse that features three dining options (casual to more formal) and a full calendar of social events.
Asked to give his blessing to some minor course renovations planned for this summer, Nicklaus said he liked what he saw and wouldn’t make many changes. Which is precisely what members say about the entire club.
