Stay and Play Golf in Colonial Williamsburg
Congress should pass a law that every American school child—and probably most adults, as well—visit Colonial Williamsburg. The capital of the Virginia Colony, restored with stunning accuracy to how it was just before the Revolution, is a living, breathing museum bursting with the latest technology circa 1770. Tinsmiths, scullery maids, apothecaries, peruke makers, printers, tavern keepers, and politicians—loyalists as well as rebels—do their thing exactly as it was done some 250 years ago in the Tidewater region of southeastern Virginia, a few hours south of what is now but wasn’t yet then the nation’s capital.
An Epic South African Golf Trip
After a nine-hour night flight and a 90-minute drive, I unpacked at my hotel and enjoyed a restorative breakfast. Returning to my room on the fifth floor with a balcony overlooking an enormous swimming pool, I was about to decide what to do with my day when I sensed that something about the room had changed.
The Ultimate Golf Trip to New Zealand
I leaned my clubs against a rail and entered a modest clubhouse, noticing to my right a selection of golf shirts, shoes and caps randomly arrayed. Because this was a New Zealand golf facility (Kaitaia Golf Club) tucked in an obscure New Zealand town (Ahipara), I wondered if things might be other than as they seem.

The Largest Golf Club in the World: Mission Hills, China
Through six holes of the Olazabal Course at Mission Hills Shenzhen, my caddie and I pretty much had the run of the place, which is saying quite a lot. Aggressively branded by its owners as the largest golf club in the world, Mission Hills Shenzhen is also among the busiest. And with 12 separate courses, it’s probably the most diverse. In any case, it’s not the sort of place one necessarily expects to find solace.

Golf and Wine Tasting in Napa
Welcome to the Napa Valley, 60 miles north of San Francisco, where golf and wine have found the perfect area of coexistence. Some 600 of California’s 3,754 bonded wineries are in the valley, while tucked among the Cabernets and Zinfandels—and in some instances requiring shots over or through them—are six 18-hole courses: Silverado North and South, Eagle Vines, Chardonnay, the private Napa Valley Country Club, and a muni strong enough to have been used as a qualifying site for PGA Tour events, Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park.
Five Golf Zones to Travel in Canada
How do you define a nice neighbor? One who breaks out the 12-year-old single malt when you drop by instead of the cheap blended stuff? Or doesn’t complain when your split-level ranch becomes home to the world’s loudest garage band? No. A nice neighbor is someone who offers you your choice of tee times on more than 2,000 golf courses. Like Canada.
