Look Ahead to the PGA Championship at Baltusrol

All eyes are shifting to New Jersey, where the 2016 PGA Championship will take place at Baltusrol Golf Club. Although the course plays as a par 72 for members, two par fives on the front nine will play as par fours during the tournament. The “new” par 70 layout only has two par fives on holes 17 and 18. The penultimate hole will only be reachable for the long hitters at 649 yards, but the final hole will play a reachable 554 yards. Should we expect to see drama similar to Royal Troon earlier this month? We can only hope.

Now, on to picking winners. Co-favorites for the event according to the Vegas betting houses are Day, McIlroy, and Johnson. Out of those, we have to pick Jason Day. McIlroy hasn’t shown top form at all this year and Johnson, while playing well, isn’t the best scrambler out of the three—a necessary skill at Balty. Our Dark Horse pick goes to Patrick Reed. Although he hasn’t contended in a major before, his T-12 finish at the Open represents a personal best in the majors and a nice boost to his confidence.
