Jim Furyk Likely To Be Named 2018 Ryder Cup Captain

On Wednesday at 1pm, the PGA of America will announce its captain for the 2018 Ryder Cup and all signs appear to point to Jim Furyk being named captain.

First reported by Links Nation last week, and backed up by several media outlets, Furyk appears to be the choice to succeed Davis Love III as the next captain for the United States side. Furyk is no stranger to the Ryder Cup. The 46 year old played on nine straight Ryder Cup teams from 1997-2014 and was an assistant captain on the 2016 winning team. Furyk has also served as an assistant captain on several Presidents Cup teams.

While his record as a player isn’t overly impressive (10-20-4), Furyk has been a vocal member of the new Ryder Cup Task Force that was put into place after the loss in 2014. He has even expressed interest in being a Ryder Cup captain if the opportunity ever presented itself.

“If they decide in ’18, ’20, ’22, whenever it is, if they decide that I’m the right person, I would love to have that job,” Furyk told the Associated Press back in November.

The European side already has their captain in place, having named Thomas Bjorn to that position in December. The 2018 Ryder Cup will be held at Le Golf National in Paris.
