Sometimes less is more. Take the case of The Ocean Course at Hōkūala on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
The Jack Nicklaus Signature designed opened three decades ago as a 27-hole layout. In 2015, the course was shortened to include its best 18 holes. The result is spectacular. Winding its way along ocean side cliffs and through guava tree groves, The Ocean Course is now home to Hawaii’s longest continuous stretch of holes that hug the Pacific Ocean.
With the redo, came a new name: Hōkūala, which means “rising star.” The name fits like a golf golf, as, under the direction of Timber Resorts, this star resort is adding a new clubhousse, an intimate, one-of-a-kind boutique hotel, and the resort’s first private residential offering, Timbers Kauai – Ocean Club & Residences. The 47 luxury homes are expected to open this fall.
