Boca Raton Regional Hospital Championship Names New Tournament Director

The Boca Raton PGA Tour Champions event has undergone several changes since Scott McCarron tapped in his eagle putt on the 72nd hole to win last February. The event changed names, going from the Allianz Championship to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Championship. With the name change, the tournament also has a new head.

On Friday, longtime industry veteran Eddie Carbone was named Tournament Director of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Championship.

“The Boca Raton Regional Hospital Championship has been a tremendous event over the last 11 years,” Carbone said. “I’m looking forward to working with the Championship staff and the members of The Old Course at Broken Sound Club to ensure that this vital community continues to deliver for our charities and the community for many years to come.

In addition to being the first full field event of the season on the PGA Tour Champions, it is widely regarded by players as one of their favorite events of the season. The 2017 edition of the event saw one of the strongest fields in the event’s history, featuring Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer, John Daly, and Miguel Angel Jimenez.

“The Boca Raton Regional Hospital Championship has become one of the players’ favorite tournaments on the PGA TOUR Champions and we will continue to showcase this great event,” Carbone said.

One of the first things Carbone will be tasked with is finding a new longterm title sponsor. Allianz had been the title sponsor for the first 10 years of the event. Boca Raton Regional Hospital is the tournament primary beneficiary and a stop gap as a title sponsor until a new longterm deal is reached.

Carbone brings quite the pedigree to the PGA Tour Champions event. He spent the last three years as executive director of the U.S. Senior Open at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Mass. Prior to that, Carbone spent a decade as executive director of the PGA TOUR event held at Trump National Doral near Miami (the Ford Championship, which later became the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship).

The 2018 edition of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Championship will be held February 5-11 at the Old Course at Broken Sound.
