Who Advanced From U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying

Yesterday, hundreds of golfers from around the world competed at 10 Sectional Qualifying spots, trying to earn one of the 72 spots up for grabs for the upcoming U.S. Open. Here is a look at who qualified for Erin Hills yesterday.

Germantown CC/Ridgeway CC in Memphis, Tennessee (9 spots)

Who Qualified: Steve Stricker (medalist), Andres Romero, Troy Merritt, Harris English, Chez Reavie, Garrett Osborn, Trey Mullinax, Xander Schauffele, and Jonathan Randolph all qualified

The biggest, and most significant, name to come out of this qualifier is Steve Stricker. Erin Hills is located is Strick’s home state of Wisconsin. Stricker appealed to the USGA for an expemtion into the event, but it was denied. Having tried and failed to crack the top 50 in the OWGR before last week’s cutoff, Stricker not only qualified for Erin Hills, he fired a 36-hole score of 10-under, good enough for Medalist honors.

Brookside CC/The Lakes CC in Columbus, Ohio (14 spots)

Who Qualified: J.T. Poston (medalist), Jason Kokrak, Bud Cauley, Martin Laird, Keegan Bradley, Stewart Cink, Jamie Lovemark, Bryson DeChambeau, C.T. Pan, David Lingmerth, Ted Potter, Jr., Peter Uihlein, Scottie Scheffler, Talor Gooch

As you can see from that list, this qualifier probably should have handed out OWGR points in addition to U.S. Open spots it was so deep. Due to it’s location and date (day after the Memorial and close to Murfield Village), it traditionally has the deepest field and largest number of PGA Tour pros. Uihlein, Scheffler and Gooch advanced via a 4-for-3 playoff that spilled into Tuesday morning.

Canoe Brook CC in Summit, N.J. (five spots)

Who Qualified: Daniel Chopra (medalist), Christopher Crawford (a), Andy Pope, Scott Harvey (a), Matthew Campbell

Hawks Ridge GC in Ball Ground, Georgia. (two spots)

Who Qualified: Stephan Jaeger (medalist), Alex Smalley (a)

Dry Love, Son of Davis Love III, made eagle on the final hole but missed out on a playoff by one shot. He will have to hope he gets in via being the first alternate.
