Callawassie Island

Unsurpassed natural beauty and waterfront opportunities abound at this Lowcountry isle private golf community

South Carolina’s Lowcountry, with its moss-covered live oaks, sweeping marsh vistas, and stunning coastline, is one of the most naturally beautiful places you will ever encounter. Nowhere is that more true than on the coastal isle of Callawassie Island.

Located between Beaufort and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, the community is reached via a picturesque causeway that seems to peel the cares of the world away as you cross it.

With spring just around the corner, azaleas will soon be in full bloom and warm breezes will be flowing over the marshes. That makes for perfect golf weather on the superb Tom Fazio-designed course (even better after the two-year, $4 million renovation of all 27 holes); boating on the Colleton River (with deep-water access to the Intracoastal waterway and Atlantic Ocean), and matches on the tennis courts or croquet lawn.

If you haven’t looked at Callawassie Island recently, there are plenty of good reasons to take a closer look now. Already with 700 families calling the island home, they welcomed twice as many new members in 2012 as they had the previous year, and the most since 2007.

Plus, you will find a great selection of homes and homesites at very good value, including on the waterfront (a rare find these days in the Lowcountry).

For golfers, the news couldn’t be better. They have reduced the Island Club initiation fee from $45,000 to $15,000. With that you get full golf membership.

A new kayak dock just over the causeway along the Chechessee Creek means members now have four different locations from which to launch aquatic activities. (The kayaking in this coastal area is among the best anywhere.)

The first community in South Carolina designated as a “Community Wildlife Habitat” by the National Wildlife Federation, Callawassie has been re-certified for the 7th year in a row.

You can discover the pleasures of island living firsthand, and explore ownership opportunities, on their three-day Membership Experience Tour. For only $299 per couple, you will stay two nights in one of their cottages or villas, and enjoy access to the golf course, pools, fitness amenities, and dining at our Lowcountry Clubhouse or River Club.

To find out more about the Membership Experience Tour, visit them at or call (843) 987-2231.
