Minutes from Charleston, South Carolina
With five distinctive golf courses and a spectacular coastal
setting, Kiawah Island Golf Resort has hosted some of the world's most
prestigious events and earned its share of impressive rankings. The resort's
Ocean Course gained worldwide attention as host of the 1991 Ryder Cup Matches
and 2007 Senior PGA Championship. This oceanfront masterpiece, designed by Pete
Dye, will also host the 2012 PGA Championship, becoming only the fourth course
to host each of the PGA of America's major championships.
The Ocean Course has more seaside holes than any other course in
the Northern Hemisphere, and golfers face the challenges of brisk sea breezes.
The course also rewards players with views of Kiawah's stunning coastline from
every hole. Playing the windswept, 7,356-yard Ocean Course is an unforgettable
experience.
Complementing this world-class course is a magnificent new
24,000-square-foot clubhouse that provides panoramic vistas of the ocean and
dunes. With its weathered shingled exterior and spacious wrap-around verandahs,
the clubhouse looks like it's been on Kiawah Island for decades. The gracious
interior features a pro shop, meeting space and the acclaimed Atlantic Room, a
restaurant with a bar, private dining and an outdoor dining porch. This
restaurant recalls an era of fine clubhouse dining with hand-cut steaks, chops
and coastal specialties, complemented by an extensive wine list.
In addition to the Ocean Course, the resort offers distinctly different
experiences on a quartet of highly ranked courses:
Turtle
Point by Jack Nicklaus
Highlighted by three spectacular oceanfront holes, Turtle Point exemplifies the architect's meticulous approach to the game. Nicklaus himself directed renovations that included rebuilding tee boxes, resculpting bunkers, redesigning all the green complexes and installing Bermuda grass putting surfaces.
Osprey
Point by Tom Fazio
A lush landscape painting brought to life, Osprey Point features 18 holes of intriguing golf embraced by four large natural lakes, fringes of saltwater marsh and a canopy of stately live oaks, pines, palms and magnolia trees. A spectacular setting and characteristic Fazio playability make it one of the island's favorite courses.
Cougar
Point by Gary Player
Renowned for a series of holes with sweeping views of the Kiawah River and miles of saltwater marsh, Cougar Point offers generous landing areas off the tee, but requires accurate approach shots to small greens. Designed to championship standards, Cougar Point challenges the best players while providing an enjoyable round for all.
Oak
Point by Clyde Johnston
Oak Point, just outside the resort gate, traverses the grounds of an old indigo and cotton plantation bordered by historic Haulover Creek and the Kiawah River. The course offers challenging golf with scenic vistas of wide fairways, expansive saltwater marshes and dense forests.
